About the Role

The Practical Partners Project Coordinator will play an integral part in helping us to develop a brand new initial 2-year project to improve outcomes for care leavers aged 16 to 30 who are struggling with the challenges of becoming independent. GoVolHerts (managed by North Herts and Stevenage CVS) is working in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council Services for Young People to recruit and train a cohort of Volunteer Champions to support care leavers. This role will support with the creation and management of a Countywide marketing campaign to recruit a team of Volunteer Champions across Hertfordshire. You will also help to support and  manage these volunteers in their roles as they are linked up with care leavers to provide befriending and informal practical support for a range of common issues and challenges. 

Volunteer Marketing and Recruitment

  1. Help create the marketing and recruitment plan to recruit 30 volunteer champions across Hertfordshire to be matched with care leavers.
  2. Support with the creation of social media content, leaflets and a dedicated webpage with further information to promote the project.
  3. Assist with the development of the Volunteer Handbook.
  4. Support with the development the volunteer induction programme.
  5. Assist to identify and develop a training programme for all Volunteer Champions.
  6. Work with the Project Coordinator at Hertfordshire County Council to coordinate the interview process that will be carried out with potential volunteers.

Volunteer Onboarding

  1. Assist with the processing of all potential volunteer applications.
  2. Book and carry out all volunteer interviews in conjunction with the Project Coordinator
  3. Organise and assist with the delivery of regular training sessions for new volunteer recruits including updating and preparing relevant materials and resources.
  4. Carry out Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and gain references for all volunteers.
  5. Provide administrative support where needed.

Volunteer Retention

  1. Keep in regular contact with volunteers to ensure they are motivated, safe and effective and have a positive volunteering experience.
  2. Assist with the creation and delivery of an annual Volunteer Champions Recognition event.
  3. Undertake the support and monthly supervision of 15 Volunteer Champions
  4. Plan and host online volunteer catch ups and events as required to ensure volunteers have a chance to meet each other, share experiences and feedback as a group.

Programme Delivery

  1. Assist the Project Coordinator to create statistical data and produce monitoring reports as required by our funder.
  2. Attend regular meetings with our project partner Hertfordshire County Council and other public sector agencies and stakeholders as required.
  3. To record sensitive information securely and update as required.
  4. Understand and comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act ensuring confidentiality of information in respect of records maintained and tasks undertaken.

Training

  • To undertake training as part of Continuous Professional Development, to ensure compliance and capability.

General Requirements

  1. Be responsibility for own health and safety at work and for the health and safety of colleagues and visitors.

  3. The job is a blended role – home based and hub based, with travel to NH&SCVS hub and other locations for meetings and training, as agreed.
  4. No overtime may be claimed on this post, but TOIL may be claimed (in line with the organisation’s TOIL procedure).
  5. Undertake from time to time such other tasks as may be required in connection with the post.
  1. Be willing to take annual leave at times which fit with the requirements of the role.  Annual leave of more than 2 working days to be taken consecutively, must be booked 6 weeks in advance with the line manager.

Key Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with and/or supporting volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organisation and project management skills, and the ability to deliver and respond to challenges.
  • Ability to identify training needs and deliver training in a variety of formats
  • Creative and curious with a willingness and ability to develop new ideas
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with empathy to service users and volunteers
  • A track record of building positive relationships.
  • Excellent IT skills, including solid knowledge of Word and Excel, and experience with social media.

Desirable

  • Experience working with young people
