Watford Mencap

Make a difference to the lives of local children and adults!

Watford Mencap are looking for Support Workers to join our Community Activities project based in central Watford, working with children, young people and adults with a learning disability.

Every day is different. Most importantly it’s about offering opportunities for children and adults to experience things that many of us take for granted.

You will be part of a large, vibrant team, planning and delivering a diverse range of leisure activities for children and adults with learning disabilities. You will ensure those attending have a really fun time, with a clear emphasis on a person-centred approach to promote clients’ independence, decision making and choice.

The job involves 1:1 support, including personal care; planning and delivering experiences for young adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities; planning and cooking meals; assessing new clients and updating support plans.
The project offers a wide range of services including:
  • After School Club, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday
  • Holiday play schemes
  • Friday Night Youth Club
  • Bumble Club for under 5’s
  • Saturday activities
  • Tuesday Night activities for adults
  • Day opportunities for young people age 18 – 25 years with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities.
The service has an Outstanding rating with Ofsted and is registered on the Early Years Register.

Being a driver is an advantage as that can help people with limited mobility to be able to get out and about. Previous experience is advantageous but not essential, it is much more important that you share our values and can demonstrate this. You will receive appropriate training to develop skills and increase knowledge.

If you think this sounds like the job for you please ring Helen on 07384 831280 for an informal chat or visit our website www.watfordmencap.org.uk for more details and to apply.
