INTRODUCTION 

Sunnyside Rural Trust is a Registered Charity that provides employment and training opportunities for young people and adults with learning disabilities. Established since 1990, we operate from 4 sites: Berkhamsted, Northchurch, Hemel Hempstead, and a new site in Bedmond with another separate main office in Berkhamsted High Street. The charity provides a valuable and popular service which aims is to enhance the lives of some 170 trainees each week who are referred to us by social services, charitable trusts and private individuals. 

Sunnyside Rural Trust specialises in supporting independent living skills development, education and employment skills. Our work centres largely around provide training and work experience in a range of land-based activities with particular emphasis on organic gardening, horticulture, conservation, and poultry keeping.  

Over the past 5 years the organisation has doubled its annual turnover by developing a range of creative and innovative new services for people with learning disabilities and social enterprise activity. We expect to continue to grow, and currently employ approx. 70 staff and have a number of volunteers.  

We are looking to appoint a part time Finance assistant to join our team. 

Accountable to: Head of Finance, Chief Finance & Administrative Officer and Chief Executive Officer 

Responsible for: Processing and completion of monthly/yearly   accounts for Sunnyside Rural Trust and its trading arm SRT Trading. 

Based: Our Berkhamsted main office and outreach work at our services within Dacorum 

Working hours: Part time position, 21 hours per week, between Monday-Friday 9-5pm. Flexible working hours can be negotiated. We would consider a term time arrangement for the right candidate.  

Salary: £25,000 pro rata plus NOW company pension

JOB DESCRIPTION  

Responsibilities 

  • Sales invoices, sales ledger, credit control. 
  • Purchase ledger & supplier payments. 
  • Petty cash control for main office and 4 sites 
  • Processing payments for trainees (volunteer expenses) 
  • Stationary orders for all sites 
  • Banking 
  • Reviewing utilities for all sites 
  • General admin duties 
  • Site visits

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Essential 

  1. Good Excel skills  
  1. Strong communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to  communicate finance to non finance member of the team   
  1. Able to work on own initiative and as a team player under pressure  
  1. Strong team player, self starter and ability to be an active member of the team  
  1. Current driving license and own transport 
  1. Willing to learn and have a positive input  
  1. Work within SRT values and team culture 

Desirable 

  1. Experience of Book- keeping or Accounts   
  1. Working within the voluntary sector  
  1. Understanding of the issues facing people with learning disabilities and their carers  
  1. Office environment experience
