Reporting to:                      Head of Wellbeing

Job Purpose: To oversee the day to day delivery of Community Action Dacorum Community Transport Service.

  • To line manage the Community Wheels Officer, Community Transport Booking Co-ordinator and office volunteers.
  • Receive telephone booking requests for the service, make informed decisions about the cost and acceptability of journeys and advise clients, client groups and organisations accordingly. Arrange for the necessary minibus or car and suitable volunteer
  • Through liaison with the Volunteer Centre and word of mouth, recruit volunteer drivers for the service so that an adequate pool of volunteer drivers is available. Arrange suitable training, maintain good communication with them and ensure the ongoing assessment and monitoring of the standards of driving
  • Register the private vehicles used for the Community Cars scheme and ensure owners/drivers are properly aware of their responsibilities to ensure that the vehicles are safe, roadworthy, legal and correctly insured for the
  • Raise awareness amongst hirers of the minibuses of the importance of vehicle
  • Responsible for the Optimse database, sharing data with the charity as required.
  • Maintain statistical records of the delivery of the service, (including financial and operational metrics) consolidating these into operational reports as required.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of registered clients and volunteer drivers for both Community Cars and Community
  • Responsible for the legal, safe and accurate operation of our fleet of vehicles including any private vehicles used to deliver the service.
  • Build and maintain networks with other transport schemes.
  • In liaison with the Head of Wellbeing ensure that all necessary insurance for the minibuses is always in place and is  achieved at the most competitive
  • Develop and propose community transport policies to ensure the department is effectively run, complies with legislation and to ensure volunteers and service users understand expectations.
  • In liaison with the Head of Wellbeing provide first line cover for accidents (and if necessary, emergencies) which may include occasional out of hours working.
  • In liaison with the Head of Wellbeing address out of hours issues that impact on service delivery
  • Responsible for the promotion and publicity of Community Transport Services.
