The Anne Robson Trust exists to improve the experience of dying for patients and those close to them. We help people talk more openly about death, and we work with healthcare organisations to provide companionship and comfort in the final days of life.

About the Role
This role brings the Anne Robson Trust’s new Community Butterfly Volunteer service to life. The service provides compassionate, non-clinical support to people who wish to die at home or in a care setting.

This pilot is an exciting milestone for the charity. It has the potential to become a model for communities across the UK, improving end-of-life experiences for thousands of people.

You will lead the delivery of the pilot on the ground: recruiting, preparing and supporting volunteers; coordinating referrals; building constructive relationships with GP practices and community teams; and making sure the service runs smoothly, safely and consistently.

Training, frameworks and ongoing support will be provided. You will have administrative support from the Project Officer.

Key Responsibilities
1. Volunteer Recruitment, Preparation & Support

  • Lead the recruitment of Community Butterfly Volunteers, including outreach,
    screening and onboarding.
  • Deliver engaging inductions and contribute to ongoing volunteer learning and
    reflective practice.
  • Provide regular support, check-ins and guidance to volunteers, promoting
    wellbeing, boundaries and resilience.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer information, availability schedules and safeguarding
    records.
  • Create a positive, compassionate volunteer culture aligned with our values

2. Service Delivery & Day-to-Day Coordination

  • Oversee the daily operation of the Community Butterfly Volunteer service.
  • Manage the referral process, ensuring timely responses and clear communication with partners and families.
  • Match volunteers thoughtfully to individuals needing support, balancing needs, preferences and capacity.
  • Ensure volunteers are fully briefed and debriefed, with smooth handovers and clear documentation.
  • Work with the Project Officer to keep all service records, logs and spreadsheet accurate and up to date.

3. Relationships with Community Partners

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with GP practices, Primary Care
  • Networks, community nursing teams, hospices and care homes.
  • Promote safe and straightforward referral pathways.
  • Attend relevant multi-disciplinary meetings, as well as meetings or events to raise awareness and strengthen collaboration.
  • Be a helpful, reliable point of contact for community partners, responding professionally to queries and feedback.

4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Collect and report service data monthly, including referrals, volunteer hours, outcomes and demographics.
  • Capture stories, feedback and learning from volunteers, partners and families.
  • Contribute to evaluation activities, helping refine the model throughout the two-year pilot.
  • Ensure accurate, high-quality data is provided for internal updates and external reporting.

5. Service Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify gaps, challenges and opportunities for improving the community model.
  • Share insights with senior colleagues and contribute to development of tools, guidance and processes.
  • Support scenario planning for potential scaling or extension beyond the pilot phase.
  • Maintain good practice in safeguarding, boundaries, risk awareness and emotional support.

6. Contingency for Head of Healthcare Partnerships & Development

  • Shadow the Head of Healthcare Partnerships & Development to understand our wider healthcare models.
  • Provide cover for key meetings, communication and partner relationships when required.
  • Support alignment between community and healthcare-based services.
